Encouraging our Youth
One of the goals for this event is to encourage the youth in our community to participate. There are three main reasons for this encouragement and what we hope to accomplish.
Kids will learn what it means to feel the satisfaction of setting a goal and reaching it. We hope this experience will teach them that it is not about winning the race, but to do your personal best and complete a set goal.
We hope the youth who participate will want to continue to stay fit and participate in some of the events in our local area. There many kids in Folsom not participating in regular sports and activities. It is recommended that kids get at least 2 hours of exercise a day and many of our youth are not even coming close.
We would like to have kids and their schools involved in the service aspect of this event. In addition to a portion of the proceeds of the race going to the Twin Lakes Food Bank and "Not in Our Town" youth scholarship, but we are also helping collect donations. We will be talking with all the schools in Folsom and any others who would like to participate in helping collect needed food, clothing and money for the Twin Lakes Food Bank.
Have Your School Collect Donations
Schools are also encouraged to help collect donations for the Twin Lakes Food Bank leading up to the event on Thanksgiving morning.. This is a great activity and learning experience of serving others. For more information check out the fundraising section of this website.
Students Racing Together
We would like to have schools come and show their support to getting fit and helping others by participating in the 5K family run/walk. Students are encouraged to wear the school colors and shirts. Just about anyone can participate in this event. Even children who think that they can't walk or run 3.1 miles (5K). Capitol adventure has provided various training schedules and clinics to help people of all ages train for this event.
